Lynnette Cole's plan to become a child advocate attorney was suddenly put on hold when she was crowned MISS USA 2000 during the 49th Annual MISS USA Pageant on the CBS Television Network. Little did she know that February 4, 2000 would mark her first day as a member of the Miss
Universe Organization an opportunity that will allow her to achieve personal and professional goals, as well as educate and increase awareness of breast and ovarian cancers, the official causes of the MISS USA Pageant. Born in Michigan, and adopted by Gail and Larry Cole almost 22 years ago, Lynnette was raised in Columbia, Tennessee. This 22 year-old was one of 130 children who grew up in the Cole household, which acted as a foster home to needy children. Larry Cole, a psychotherapist, and Gail Cole, a full-time mom, have raised Lynnette and her biological brother Sean as their own. Lynnette describes herself as a "self-motivator," an important attribute since she is furthering her education by taking pre-law correspondence
classes from a local community college. In her spare time, Lynnette teaches grades K-6 as a substitute teacher at Columbia Academy and worked at a daycare center for 6 1/2 years. She also is a model who enjoys playing volleyball, reading, running, and volunteering in her community. In addition to being an official spokesperson for breast and ovarian cancer research and awareness, Cole will be involved with various charities throughout the
country including the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, NABCO, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, and Gilda's Club. After completing her year as MISS USA, Lynnette plans to try her hand at acting and modeling before obtaining her law degree and becoming a child advocate attorney.
